Hi

I'm relatively new to CCTV but work in IT and so amn't 100% lost ! .

Anyway, I have already set up a personal DVR using ddns - http://rwilsonie.webhop.net:80

It's an Avermedia 1504 Net DVR with two IR cameras (cam 2 conntected via wifi).

System works great and functionality of DVR is great. My issue is that I cannot view my cam here in work Sad

It lets me install the ActiveX control but then it fails to connect. I thought maybe it was a port blocked but that wasn't the problem. I then thought work may block video streaming but I can stream from RogueMotorsports website fine http://www.roguemotorsport.com

And I think this uses javascript to either install Activex or Java dependant on browser. And it uses an Axis IP cam.

So, my current system isn't going to be accessible to some users. I think
that the ActiveX control with my Avermedia DVR is too complex and work PC is blocking it from working. Whereas the Axis cam is a simpler interface and so, allowed to run. Could this be the case ?

So - my question on the design part basically relates to the remote access - I would like a system that has recording / pause / playback ability, can remote preview (and control) either via ActiveX control or Java. And the remote viewer should let me view multiple cams at the same time (suppose I could write up some html to stream 4 different cams into one window). And cameras must be IR.

Any advice on how I can achieve the above ?

Basically, my current 2 camera and 1504Net setup cost me approx 700 euro. So, looking for a system for around US$ 1,000.

Is it an option to use a webserver to stream video from x cameras ? If so, is it the web server that installs the ActiveX control / Java Applet ? If so, can anyone recommend a webserver that can be remote previewed via Java and ActiveX ? I'm looking to be able to view it from as many locations as possible e.g. some airports will have "locked down" browsers and so, won't let you install ActiveX controls etc

TIA
Rob

Can you view your home system from any remote site? (i.e. a friend's home PC, with less security in place than you are likely to have at work)

Just to know that your home system, router, etc is capable of uploading video successfully.
